Dubai: Indian wins Dh20 million, thanks lucky cat

A Indian expatriate and longtime Dubai resident is now Dh20 million richer after winning the jackpot in the recent Mahzooz draw. A smiling Sachin still couldn’t believe his luck when he spoke with Expatmedia.net following a press conference in the Mahzooz headquarters on Wednesday (August 2). “On the draw date, I missed it and went to sleep. I only found out I won the next day,” Sachin told Expatmedia.net, “My wife was sleeping next to me when I woke her up to tell her the news. We were both shocked. It was really a big moment for both of us.”

Sachin matched all five numbers in Saturday’s draw (July 29): 2, 9, 10, 15 and 36, which he picked using the Mahzooz website’s random number picker. He said he has been participating in Mahzooz since it launched, and usually buys three tickets per week. Sachin credits his good luck to a new cat that he brought home that Saturday morning to surprise his wife and their three children, aged 11 and 6. How does he plan on spending the Dh20 million? “It’s too early to say now, but for sure it will be for the education of my kids, and the rest we have not decided,” he said. Sachin has been living in Dubai in the last 25 years. The 47-year-old expat from Mumbai in India works as a CAD technician for a private company in the emirate. “I have not thought of quitting my job. I am still going to work here,” he said.
