A 27-year-old Indian expat in Dubai who was hit by a car has died in a hospital, but not before saving lives with multiple organ donations. Sharvil Katariya, a software engineer, suffered severe brain injuries following the road accident. He was admitted to a hospital in Al Barsha where he remained in ICU for a couple of weeks. His parents told Gulf News that the accident happened on September 7 as he was walking home from a gym in Ibn Battuta Mall to The Gardens. The couple said they made the decision to donate Sharvil’s vital organs—his heart, liver, lungs, kidneys and pancreas—to help other families and to keep their son alive through others. The multiple organ donation was facilitated by Hayat, the UAE’s National Programme for Donation and Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues. Sharvil was transferred to a hospital in Abu Dhabi in late September for the organ donation process. Doctors said that Sharvil’s heart was donated to a patient in Saudi Arabia, while his other organs were given to patients in the UAE. He was cremated in the New Sonapur Hindu Cremation Ground in Jebel Ali on September 29. The family is now in India to perform last rites. ICA/Expat Media
