Indian expat who lost job wins $1 million in Dubai

  DUBAI – An Indian expatriate who was laid off due to the pandemic is now a rich man after winning the $1 million jackpot in the Dubai Duty Free Millennium Millionaire Draw. Navaneeth Sajeevan, 30, was made redundant in the Abu Dhabi company where he worked and had just finished a job interview when he received the call from Dubai Duty Free on Sunday (December 20). Sajeevan said the windfall was “unbelievable”. He bought his winning ticket online on November 22. The Abu Dhabi resident said he will be sharing the major prize with four other people. His share amounts to $200,000 (Dh734,000). Sajeevan said he will be using part of his winnings to pay off his Dh100,000 bank loan, and the rest will go to his savings for his wife and their one-year-old baby in Abu Dhabi. ICA/Expat Media
