Indian who lapsed into coma in Ras Al Khaimah gets new lease of life
DUBAI – An Indian businessman has been given a new lease of life after suffering a cerebral stroke that left him in a partial coma. Brinner Karunakaran, 45, was rushed to the emergency room after a rare and massive stroke that “could have resulted in death”. Two day prior to the medical emergency, he had experienced a bout of dizziness. He never thought it was a prelude to stroke. "Usually, such patients have very small chances of survival. However, RAK Hospital team of doctors immediately sprung into action and performed two difficult surgical procedures,” said Dr. Tinku Jose Kurisinkal, consultant neurosurgeon at RAK Hospital who led the team of doctors working on the case. The stroke left Karunakaran in a semi-comatose state, and his brain had swelled. Doctors had to act quickly to reduce the accumulation of fluid in his brain. Thankfully, the surgery was a success. Karunakaran is now conscious and is able to communicate with his family. He is also able to walk with support. His wife, Shima, said the family is “indebted and feel truly blessed” to have a team of professionals at RAK Hospital “save my husband’s life”. ICA/Expat Media What is cerebral stroke?
