Indian expats in UAE applying for passport renewals must secure a police clearance certificate (PCC) from India under the Normal Passport Renewal Service, the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi has clarified. According to the embassy, police clearance is mandatory before passports can be issued under the normal service, whereas in the Tatkal Passport Renewal Service, PCC is required post-issuance. “Walk-ins are accepted for all Tatkal applicants, which is the fastest option for urgent renewals,” the embassy announced. Applicants can choose between three service options: Normal, Tatkal, and Premium Lounge Service, with varying timelines and costs. The Normal Service typically takes 3 to 4 working days, while the Tatkal Service can deliver passports as quickly as the same day, provided the application is submitted before 12pm. Contrary to popular belief, the Premium Lounge Service, which offers enhanced customer support at BLS International Centres, does not expedite the process. “Premium Lounge Service is not a fast-track option; it adheres to the same timeline as the Normal Service,” the embassy clarified. For all services, applicants must book appointments through the BLS International website or at centres located within Indian community associations. The service provider collaborates with the Indian Embassy and Consulate for processing applications. Renewal fees vary based on the service selected. A standard 36-page passport costs Dh285 under the Normal Service, while the Tatkal Service incurs a fee of Dh855. Additional charges apply for the Premium Lounge Service. The embassy emphasized that the Tatkal Service is ideal for emergencies, offering flexibility and speed. "For those with urgent needs, walk-ins at Tatkal counters ensure faster processing," officials noted. Expats are urged to verify all requirements before applying to avoid delays.
