DUBAI – An investigation is underway to find out the cause of death of Indian teenager Aliya Niyaz Ali in Dubai, her father said.
Aliya, 17, died on Tuesday from suspected flu complications. The Grade 12 student of Indian High School still attended school until Monday, according to reports.
Rashid Hospital, in a statement on Thursday, said Aliya was treated at a private health care facility before she was transferred to the emergency department of Rashid Hospital on Tuesday in “advanced shock state”.
“Emergency management care including appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic measures were instituted immediately. However, her condition deteriorated rapidly during her stay in the Emergency department and unfortunately she succumbed to death within a few hours of her arrival to the hospital,” according to a statement from the hospital.
Aliya’s father, Niyaz, told media that a representative from the health authority has informed the family that they are investigating the case to find out the teen’s cause of death.
Niyaz said doctors have called Aliya’s condition the “rarest of rare cases”.
Aliya’s death follows the death of a nine-year-old student at a school in Dubai, which had asked parents not to send their children to school if they are sick. The student reportedly died of acute viral infection.
