Indian wears PPE at Dubai airport for repatriation flight

DUBAI – An Indian man wasn’t taking any chances during the coronavirus pandemic by wearing a full PPE at the Dubai International Airport on Friday (May 8). John Philip of Chennai was among hundreds of Indians being repatriated from Dubai on Friday. He was spotted by staff of the Indian Consulate in Dubai at the airport while wearing a full personal protective equipment or PPE. “Nice to feel their happiness of going home..but even great to see a passenger in PPE as well,” the Consulate said in the caption of its video clip of Philip. Philip said he came to Dubai on a short visit and had left his family behind. "My family is back home alone. At this time, being with the family is really important, so I am going back to be with them," he said. He thanked the Indian government for arranging the repatriation flights, which began on Thursday. Since Thursday, two special flights from the UAE have been arranged daily as part of India’s massive repatriation campaign. The two flights that landed in Kerala from Abu Dhabi and Dubai on Thursday were carrying 354 people, including nine infants. About 15,000 Indians will be repatriated from 12 countries on planes and naval ships, according to the Indian government. In Dubai, the Indian Consulate said it had received nearly 200,000 applications, and had appealed on Twitter for "patience and cooperation" on repatriation efforts. ICA/Expat Media
