Influencers, artists subject to VAT for gifts, services: UAE tax authority
DUBAI - Influencers and artists in the UAE are subject to value added tax (VAT) on cash payments or gifts they receive, the UAE’s Federal Tax Authority (FTA) has confirmed. According to the FTA, VAT must be paid for services including promotional activities, appearances and other marketing activities. Gifts received will also be accounted for VAT calculations. Influencers and artists are required to register for VAT if they are earning Dh375,000 within a 12-month period. Once they have registered for VAT, influencers will need to issue an invoice for any gift they receive from any company. They are also required to apply for a licence to conduct commercial activities through social media.
