International City residents rack up parking fines

  DUBAI – Residents of International City woke up to text messages of new parking fines on Monday (August 1) as they complained about the unresolved issue of parking in the area. “I received a text message from the Dubai Police this morning that said I have a new parking fine,” a resident, who did not wish to be identified, told ExpatMedia.Net. “The last time I received a similar fine was in May. I did not get any more police fines after that for illegal parking, but it seems the police have started issuing fines again,” he said. Another resident told ExpatMedia.Net that he paid more than Dh1,000 in fines for illegal parking, adding that it is compounding to his problem. “It’s almost impossible to find parking space at night, so I am forced to park by the roadside where I just place everything in hopes that my car won't get vandalized or I don’t get a police fine in the morning. There is no alternative parking space or solution offered and we still get fined,” he said. During a survey of parking areas in International City on Monday morning, ExpatMedia.Net noted that a lot of private vehicles were parked in non-designated areas, while abandoned cars and commercial vehicles like coaster buses and trucks were parked in designated parking spaces. It is illegal to park commercial vehicles in the community.
