Dubai prosecutors drop probe on woman's alleged rape after review of mobile phone video shows that Briton had consensual sex

  DUBAI – The Dubai Public Prosecutor's Office has closed its investigation on the alleged rape of a British woman late last month after it was found out that what happened was consensual sex between the complainant and two fellow British nationals. Prosecutors said "a thorough review of statements given by the British woman and the two suspects as well as the reports of investigating officers from Dubai Police, showed that the act happened with the consent of the three parties in question" and that a video obtained from the mobile phone of one of the suspects detailing the act was key evidence that supported this conclusion." The complainant alleged that she was raped by two fellow British nationals last October. She reported the matter to Al Barsha police. The suspects were arrested and questioned but released on bail after. With the rape investigation now closed, the complainant and suspects are going to get their passports back and can now leave the UAE. It was not known what will happen to the case of extramarital sex filed against the complainant. Lawyer Faisal Alzarooni, counsel of the suspects, said if one is convicted of consensual extramarital sex, a defendant can face anywhere from a month to three years in jail and will be deported after serving the prison sentence.
