In a case that has shocked residents and intrigued law enforcement, Iraqi police have arrested a 77-year-old woman and her son in connection with a series of thefts across Najaf. According to the Najaf Police Command, the pair are accused of orchestrating at least 10 thefts involving homes, shops, jewellery stores—and even a young girl in a market. The elderly woman allegedly acted as the fence, selling stolen goods, while her son carried out the actual thefts. The crimes involved gold, motorcycles, and cash. In one startling incident, the son reportedly snatched a gold necklace from a girl in a busy market—an act made even more alarming due to the woman's involvement. Police recovered several unsold items, and both suspects have been referred to judicial authorities for legal proceedings. While the woman’s name was not released, local broadcaster Alsumaria reported her age as 77, making her the oldest known thief on record in Iraq. ICA/Expat Media
