Irrfan Khan’s heartbreaking message on cancer that killed him

  DUBAI – Bollywood star Irrfan Khan died on Wednesday (April 29) after battling a rare form of cancer. He was 53. Khan was diagnosed with neuroendocrine tumour in 2018 and on Tuesday, he was admitted to an ICU in Mumbai due to a colon infection. "After having been struck by lightning in 2018 with the news of a rare cancer... he fought the many battles that came with it. Surrounded by his love, his family for whom he most cared about, he left for heaven, leaving behind a legacy of his own," his spokesperson said. “Irrfan was a strong soul, someone who fought till the very end and always inspired everyone who came close to him," the spokesperson said. Khan is survived by his wife Sutapa Sikdar and their two sons Babil and Ayan. On March 16, 2018, the actor posted a heartbreaking and philosophical tweet about his cancer diagnosis, quoting American novelist Margert Mitchell, “Life is under no obligation to give us what we expect.” He also said, “I hope to be back with more stories to tell.” Unfortunately, that hope ended on Wednesday when he lost his battle with cancer. Here’s what he said in full: “The unexpected makes us grow, which is what the past few days have been about. Learning that I have been diagnosed with NeuroEndocrine Tumor as of now has admittedly been difficult, but the love and strength of those around me and that I found within me has brought me to a place of hope. The journey of this is taking me out of the country and I request everyone to continue sending their wishes. As for the rumors that were floated, NEURO is not always about the brain and Googling is the easiest way to do research. To those who waited for my words, I hope to be back with more stories to tell.” That same year, Khan spoke to AP about his ongoing cancer treatment, philosophically saying that he learned a lot from the experience: "You stop your contemplation, you stop your planning, you stop the noise. You see the other aspect of it. It gives you so much. Life offers you so much. That's why I feel like I have no other words but thanks. There are no other words, there's no other demand, there's no other prayer." Meanwhile, tributes have poured in for the Bollywood superstar, with some recounting their last memories and experiences with the actor.
