Thomas gets praise; crowd at TD Garden gives player a standing ovation

  A day after the death of his 22-year-old sister, Isaiah Thomas of the Boston Celtics showed up and played for his team against the Chicago Bulls last Sunday at the TD Garden in Boston. Thomas contributed a team-high of 33 points as well as six assists and five rebounds in Game 1 of the Celtics' first-round playoff against the Bulls but it wasn't enough to make his team win. The Celtics lost to the Bulls, 102-106. Game 2 is scheduled on Tuesday at the TD Garden, which is also known as the Boston Garden. Chyna Thomas died last Saturday in a car accident on the interstate in the Thomas family's home state of Washington. Prior to last Sunday's game, Thomas's teammate Avery Bradley was seen on TV cameras comforting the 28-year-old Isaiah as they both sat on the bench during the pregame shootaround. The crowd at the TD Garden gave Isaiah a standing ovation when he joined his teammates in the court after being introduced. His teammates immediately surrounded him in a group hug. A moment of silence was observed for Chyna as Isaiah shed tears. As his tribute to Chyna, Isaiah scribbled ""Chyna," ''RIP Lil Sis" and "I love you" on his shoes. After the game, Thomas did not talk to reporters and left the arena. Bradley praised Thomas for deciding to play despite Chyna's untimely demise saying: "It says a lot. Isaiah, to me, is like family," Bradley said. "We grew up in the same area. I know it's tough for him. It says a lot about him. He's a true competitor and tonight he was playing for his sister and he was playing for his family."
