Jam Morales to perform for pre-Valentines gig in Dubai

    DUBAI – Twenty-nine years after her first gig in Dubai, Filipino singer and recording artist Jam Morales is heading back to the emirate in February for a comeback concert, with a new hit song in the works. Morales shot to fame in the 1980s with hits “Even If” and “Smile in Your Heart” before moving to New Mexico where she runs a music studio, tutoring contestants for American Idol, The Voice and America’s Got Talent. Her first show in the UAE was in 1987 with Bert Marcelo and Marco Sison, among others. In an interview with ExpatMedia.Net, Morales said she is “excited to see Dubai again after all these years”. “It’s been 29 years ago since I went to Dubai so I am sure there a lot of changes. I am hoping that everyone would join me for the pre-Valentines show and just have a wonderful time,” said Morales, who is performing at Fort Andres Lounge Bar & Restaurant, Warwick Hotel Dubai on February 9. What can fans expect from her show this time? “They will have a great time. My show is interactive. I make my audience participate with me in the show. There will be a lot of singing and dancing. My job is for my audience to have a night to remember; a night where all inhibitions are taken away and the magic begins,” she said. Here’s an excerpt of the Q&A It’s been decades since you last visited the UAE. Can you still remember that first visit? I performed way back in the 80's with Hatid Saya, an event sponsored by the Philippine Department of Labor for Filipino overseas workers so it was a tour in the UAE. This was headed by Bert Marcelo. I was with other artists like Marco Sison, Diomedes Maturan, Lorna Pal and many more. To be exact this was in 1987. I will not forget because I was five months pregnant then and was still performing. What do you plan to do the minute you arrive in Dubai? I arrive at night so I want to get a good night's rest and then go around the whole city first thing in the morning and then of course prepare for the show. After my Dubai show I leave early in the morning for Oman because my show there is at 1 p.m. and then I fly back to Dubai and will be heading to Manila for a Valentines concert at Solaire Casino at Eclipse. I will be in Manila until February 18 before flying back to the US and start my real estate classes. You might ask why. My friend needs help, besides, it is something I could do on the side. It will be exciting and very interesting. What have you been up to in the last few decades? I think my calling is to glorify our heavenly Father with my music. He has blessed me with opportunities to perform and do shows continuously. I have also opened a voice studio and have been giving voice lessons for 24 years now. I have had students in American Idol, The Voice, America’s Got Talent. I have shared the gift of music with my students of all ages. I start them at 5 years old so everyone can sing. What are your plans for the next 10 years? I just take it day by day thanking the good Lord I am alive. I am just enjoying every moment I have here on earth and enjoying it with the people I love. Are you working on a new album? Yes. I am working on my album with a song that will be released this year. It is called “Ikaw at Ako” and was written by a very good friend of mine, Angel Gamez. What’s your new song all about? It's between “Smile in your Heart” and “Even If” so It's a good comeback song. Do you have a message to your fans? Be positive, be happy and always give a smile in your heart.
