Miwako Yanagisawa's unique items put on sale at Adihex

  ABU DHABI – Among the many exhibitors who participated in the Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition (Adihex) at the Abu Dhabi International Exhibition Centre is a Japanese jewelry maker who has made a name for coming up with gem-encrusted falcon hoods and tiaras for horses. It was Miwako Yanagisawa's first time to join the Adihex and display her wares that included hoods and headbands put on falcons and horse heads made out of origami paper. Yanagisawa said she decided to delve into making the gold-plated hoods adorns with jewels and horse tiaras after she got bored with making jewelry for people. She said she decided to bring her products to the Adihex because she feels that Arabs who own falcons and horses would like them and so far, those who've visited her stall say it's nice. Yanagisawa divides her time between her ateliers in Tokyo and Paris. She resided in Paris immediately after finishing universities studies to become a jeweller. For the past 14 years, she sold her work from the Ritz Carlton in Paris and is now kept busy with personal orders from France and Japan. She began making the gold-plated falcon hoods and horse tiaras two years ago and she hoped that through Adihex, she'd have orders from customers in the Gulf region. On the average, Yanagisawa spends 12 hours a day in her atelier and works on a hood for two to three months. The most expensive golden falcon hood decorated with tourmarine, pearls and diamonds costs Dh40,000 while the price of a gold-plated headband adorned with South Asia pearls is Dh51,000. Yanagisawa does not own a falcon or horse. What she does have is a cat. She hoped that an Abu Dhabi stallion or falcon that would get to wear the hood or tiara she made would like them.
