Former Filipina game show host and actress documents fight against the ailment via Youtube

  SAN DIEGO, California - Erstwhile game show host and actress Jaymee Joaquin has breast cancer but she is not letting the ailment stop her from living live to the fullest. Joaquin, 37, is undergoing chemotherapy in the US where she has been based since 2015.

As part of her "journey to healing", Joaquin told the entertainment website Pep.ph that she decided to shave off her hair while she is still "healthy and brave enough" to let it go. On her Instagram account, she posted her "new and non-conventional look" while wearing a scarf that she herself knitted. In the photo's caption, Joaquin wrote: "Dear society: Will you still accept me and think of me as 'beautiful' even if I'm bald and non-conventional? I hope so. Actually, WHO CARES? I accept and love ME anyway. And my Creator thinks I'm fearfully and wonderfully made. That's really all that matters. P.S. Wearing the scarf I knitted during my down days!" Joaquin hosted the ABS-CBN late night game show "Games Uplate Live" from 2006 to 2009. She also appeared in the sitcom "Bora" in 2005, the drama series "Ligaw na Bulaklak" in 2008 and in two movies. Joaquin left the Philippines in 2010 for Sydney, Australia where she took a Communications and Tourism course. Joaquin then went to Madrid, Spain where she lived for four years and worked as an English teacher In mid-2015, Joaquin moved to San Diego, California It was in October last year that she learned that she had Stage 2A breast cancer. She began her chemotherapy sessions last January at the University of California San Diego Moores Cancer Center. She said she considers herself lucky to find out she has breast cancer at its early stage. Joaquin created a Youtube channel titled "Jaymee Wins" where she posts videos of her "non-conventional life as a performing artist, a commercial talent, a curious traveler, a conversations mentor, a carefree woman, and now a breast cancer victor." Asked for the reason behind the title of her Youtube channel, she replied in Filipino: "I believe with all my heart and soul that one should claim victory, right?" "I know that I will win. In my heart, I have faith in the Lord," she added. Through her video channel, Joaquin also wants to reconnect with the world and with other Filipinos, especially her supporters, who she felt she let down after leaving the Philippines without a word. Even if her healing and recovery have not been easy, Joaquin said she has kept a positive outlook.
