Jebel Ali partygoer 'washed ashore' at Barasti Beach a hoax

DUBAI - Did a partygoer really get washed ashore into Barasti Beach Bar in Dubai Marina after floating in the ocean on an inflatable rubber ring from Jebel Ali overnight? Don’t be fooled. It’s just an April Fool’s Day hoax! News of the alleged incident was circulated by a PR company on Monday (April 1). Expat Media reached out to a representative of the PR firm who confirmed the hoax. According to the hoax news designed for April Fool’s Day, a Briton who "was enjoying the sunshine in Jebel Ali on Sunday afternoon" took a nap and woke up at night to find that he had drifted away from shore. Brian Slade, 32, allegedly spent the night drifting for 30 kilometres to land on the shores of Barasti bar on Monday. “The IT engineer received a warm welcome from the shocked Barasti staff who were setting up for another day at the busy beach bar at Le Meridien Mina Seyahi in the Dubai Marina,” according to the statement, which added that the Briton was also offered a shower and breakfast. “I was clueless when I woke up as to what had happened – it was pitch black and I only wanted to have a quick nap in the sunshine. I just sat tight throughout the night and would occasionally see the odd light on the shore,” the statement quoted Slade as saying. The unbelievable story is certainly one for the books in UAE’s April Fool’s Day hoaxes. April 1 is celebrated around the world as April Fool’s Day when people pull pranks on each other and corporations try to fool customers with internet hoaxes just for laughs.
