Walk of Fame Class of 2018 revealed by Hollywood Chamber of Commerce

  LOS ANGELES - Academy Award-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence, acerbic talent show judge Simon Cowell and drag superstar RuPaul are among the celebrities who will each receive a US$3,000 Terrazo marble and brass star on the Walk of Fame along Hollywood and Vine boulevards. This after the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has revealed the Walk of Fame Class of 2018 who come from the fields of movies, music, live theater, TV and radio. Dates for the star ceremonies will be announced soon. Aside from Lawrence, those from the film industry who will get a star are: Jack Black, Kirsten Dunst, Jeff Goldblum, F. Gary Gray, Mark Hamill, Gina Lollobrigida, Minnie Mouse, Nick Nolte and Zoë Saldana. Music, radio and live theater stars named to the Class of 2018 are: Mary J. Blige, Richard Branson, Petula Clark, Harry Connick, Jr., Snoop Dogg, Ice T, Carrie Underwood, "Weird" Al Yankovic, Charles Aznavour, Lin-Manuel Miranda, radio host Steve Jones and the late comedian Bernie Mac. Television celebrities who will be honored aside from Cowell and RuPaul are: the late Steve "The Crocodile Hunter" Irwin, Anthony Anderson, Gillian Anderson, Lynda Carter, Taraji P. Henson, Eric McCormack, Ryan Murphy, Niecy Nash, Mandy Patinkin and Shonda Rhimes. A CNN report said Miranda, creator of the Broadway play "Hamilton", and Yankovic were having lunch together when they were told they'd be getting stars, much to their surprise. The Hollywood Walk of Fame is administered by the Chamber of Commerce and maintained by the Hollywood Historic Trust. Getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is not easy. Ana Martinez, who is the producer of the Walk of Fame, said in a CNN interview last year that they receive applications for stars on the famous boulevard and it is the Chamber of Commerce board of director that decides who gets a star. The board of directors include talent manager Irving Azoff and producer/director Don Mischer. "There are forms they have to fill out, a bio and a letter of consent from the celebrity that states they are in agreement of the nomination and will show up (to the ceremony) if selected. They look at how long the person has been in the business, awards, nominations and philanthropic work in their community, or around the world," Martinez said.
