  SHARJAH - A Sharjah resident said he has been victimised by jet ski operators in Al Mamzar beach who asked him to pay thousands of dirhams for what he said were bogus damages to their jet ski. Speaking to XPRESS, Indian expatriate Ravi Talreja, said he is the latest to have fallen for the "old scam". Talreja said he had to shell out Dh3,000 after he overturned his rented jet ski. Talreja said that after 30 minutes into his joy ride, he fell into the water after trying to avoid a crash with another jet ski. "First I thought it was my mistake but I felt intimidated by one of their gang members,” Talreja said. He was billed Dh5,000 for alleged damages to the vehicle. "All along I thought I was at fault until I came across others recounting exactly the same horrifying story as mine,” he said, adding that he was forced to pay a hefty amount after bargaining with the jet ski operator to lower the bill to Dh3,000. “They had kept my Emirates ID as a guarantee and there was no way I would get it back if I didn’t pay," he said.
