Woman kills lover for rejecting her marriage proposal

  DUBAI - A woman who stabbed her lover for refusing to marry her was sentenced to 10 years in jail on Sunday (June 12). She was also ordered to pay the victim's family Dh100,000 in compensation. Wearing her pink jail uniform, the 34-year-old Russian was in tears as she was escorted out of the Dubai Court of First Instance. The court had found her guilty of murdering her Palestinian lover, after hearing how she had stabbed him three times in the chest in a drunken rage after he refused her marriage proposal in 2014. She had pleaded not guilty to the charge and said she only acted in self defence. She said she had loved the victim and had even lent him more than Dh500,000 and bought him two cars. A policeman testified in court that police who responded to the woman's call for help found her in her apartment, crying over the dead body. "She said that she discovered that he was married and had been exploiting her financially as he took between Dh10,000 and Dh20,000 every now and then," the policeman told the court. He also said that the woman told police that on the night of the incident, the couple had an argument. The Russian woman left the apartment and went drinking in a bar. She came home drunk and then stabbed the Palestinian while he was sleeping. The judge on Sunday said that the woman will be tried separately on the charge of consuming alcohol. She will be deported after serving her jail term.
