Diners at the iconic Paluto restaurant in Dubai were in for a surprise recently when acclaimed Filipino journalist Kara David dropped by for a culinary adventure as part of her “Pinas Sarap” Dubai edition. Known for her passion for Filipino cuisine, David made her way to the Waterfront Market, where she handpicked seafood, including a giant lobster and a king crab, before heading to Paluto to have them cooked — Filipino style. A teaser for the upcoming episode showed David grinning widely as she admired her feast of freshly prepared seafood. Her Dubai foodie escapade will air on Saturday (May 3) at 8pm (4pm UAE time) on GTV. Paluto, a homegrown Filipino restaurant concept, turns 8 this year and was one of the first eateries to open at the newly built Waterfront Market in Deira back in 2017. It pioneered the market-to-table concept in the city — a familiar experience for Filipinos where customers buy their seafood fresh from Waterfront Market and have it cooked to their liking at Paluto. “I remember there were only two restaurants open at Waterfront Market when it launched in 2017 and I was very proud that one of them is a homegrown Filipino restaurant,” said Florence Pia Yu, a long-time Dubai resident and Expat Media Editor-in-Chief. “I knew Paluto was in it for the long haul because of its very unique dining concept.” Paluto founders told Expat Media that the restaurant is planning more expansions, including the launch of a new line of cakes called Bravo this month. Set along the scenic Deira Corniche, Paluto offers indoor and al fresco seating, perfect for casual gatherings with friends and family. The restaurant has since expanded its footprint within the Waterfront Market, welcoming diners with an expanded menu and a laid-back seaside vibe. Paluto is open Monday to Friday from 2pm to 11:30pm and on weekends from 11am to 11:30pm. Due to its popularity, especially during weekends, advance reservations are encouraged. ICA/Expat Media
