Karama among 5 new Dubai areas to have e-scooter tracks in 2022

  DUBAI – Al Karama and four other areas in Dubai will have e-scooter tracks early next year as Dubai expands its network for the electric vehicles. According to the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), e-scooter tracks will be constructed in some areas of Al Karama, City Walk, Palm Jumeirah as well as parts of Al Qusais and Al Mankhool. In 2020, Dubai made it legal for e-scooter riders to use their vehicle in five designated areas: Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard in Downtown Dubai, Dubai Internet City, 2nd of December Street, Al Rigga and Jumeirah Lakes Towers. By early 2022, Dubai will have a total of 10 designated areas for e-scooters, with the addition of five more areas in Dubai where tracks will be constructed. Mattar Al Tayer, director general and chairman of Dubai’s RTA, said that civil works have begun to launch phase one of the project. “The initial phase covers Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard, Jumeirah Lakes Towers, Dubai Internet City, Al Rigga, 2nd of December Street (specified track and zone), The Palm Jumeirah, and City Walk. It also covered safe roads in Al Qusais, Al Mankhool, and Al Karama communities as well as cycling tracks except for the cycling tracks of Seih Al Salam, Al Qudra, and Meydan,” Al Tayer said.
