King Charles pays tribute to Queen Elizabeth II

King Charles has released a statement following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday (September 8). King Charles paid tribute to his “beloved mother” and cherished Sovereign”, calling her death a “moment of greatest sadness”. Here is the full statement: “The death of my beloved Mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family. We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished Sovereign and a much-loved Mother. I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world. During this period of mourning and change, my family and I will be comforted and sustained by our knowledge of the respect and deep affection in which The Queen was so widely held.” The royal family, including Queen Elizabeth’s four children and the Duke of Cambridge, was by her bedside when she died at Balmoral Castle in Scotland where she had been placed under medical supervision. Following her death, her son, Charles, 73, acceded to the throne and is now king. The Duchess of Cornwall is now queen and is expected to be crowned at Charles’s side at his eventual coronation.
