TV host-actress flies to the US to sign contract for movie

  MANILA - TV host-actress Kris Aquino flew to Los Angeles on Easter Sunday to sign a contract to star in a Hollywood movie. Aquino, youngest sibling of former President Benigno Aquino III, announced in an Instagram post that she would be in a "big Hollywood studio movie" that will start filming soon. She got the movie role after she sent an audition reel to the studio. Because of a non-disclosure clause in the movie contract, Aquino is barred from naming the studio and give details about the film as well as her role. Philippine Daily Inquirer sources revealed that Aquino will have a role in Warner Brothers' movie adaptation of Kevin Kwan's best-selling novel "Crazy Rich Asians" and that six Filipino actresses auditioned for a role in the movie but only Aquino got a role so far. Kwan's novel is about about an old-wealth Singaporean family, its matriarch Eleanor Young (who will be reportedly portrayed by Michelle Yeoh), and its scion - the Ivy-League-educated Nick Young, who flies home to Singapore for a friend's wedding with his New Yorker girlfriend in tow. In a lengthy Instagram post, Aquino recalled the events that transpired before she got the Hollywood movie role and how she only had 72 hours to produce the audition reel. "For a year, I experienced rejections. A part of my spirit broke. There were two shows I lost because hiring an Aquino for TV was a political risk not worth taking,” she wrote. The actress said things changed when she was contacted by award-winning Broadway producer Jhett Tolentino, who asked her if she wanted to audition for a “big Hollywood studio movie”. “The pressure was I had to submit my reel in 72 hrs. I felt I had nothing to lose, so we went for it,” she recalled. The actress said she passed five levels of “intense scrutiny” before landing a role in the movie.

The pressure was I had to submit my reel in 72 hrs. I felt I had nothing to lose, so we went for it. 48 hrs after Jhett's call, on March 25 we mounted an audition shoot in Manila Peninsula. Tonight I fly to Los Angeles to meet Chris Lee, my agent to sign my contract. I passed 5 levels of intense scrutiny and was offered a role. It is surreal to be reading the script from a major Hollywood studio watermarked on every page with my name. I signed a non disclosure agreement so until they reveal my participation I can't share any details about the movie & my role. But today Easter Sunday- I wanted you to know my story...
