New officers and members of Las Damas de Rizal Dubai and Northern Emirates took their oath of office at a recent ceremony held at the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai. The oath-taking on Wednesday (May 21) marked a significant step in the group’s mission to promote the ideals of Dr. Jose Rizal and strengthen Filipino community involvement in the UAE. Ma. Luisa Azizah Ditchon Zekaj, President of Las Damas de Rizal Dubai and Northern Emirates, led the 16-member group during the induction. Philippine Consul General Marford Angeles presided over the ceremony and urged members to “be in the moment” in their service to the community. Guest speaker Josie Conlu, an organizer of the upcoming Kalayaan celebration on June 1, echoed the call to community service. The event was also attended by Dr. Daffodils Guevarra, Board of Trustees; Mechelle Gegalao, VP of Las Damas de Rizal Abu Dhabi, and Dr. Aileen Villanueva, Founding Chapter of Las Damas de Rizal in the Middle East & Africa. The Las Damas de Rizal is a civic and cultural organization affiliated with the Knights of Rizal. It aims to uphold the legacy of the Philippine national hero through leadership, education, and volunteerism in Filipino communities abroad.
