FBI out to bring Marilou Danley back to the US for questioning, says official

  MANILA – Marilou Danley, who was earlier considered by Las Vegas police as a "person of interest" in the deadly mass shooting in Las Vegas on Sunday night, is reportedly in the Philippines. Danley, 62, who is a Filipino-Australian, is the rumored girlfriend or housemate of Stephen Paddock. Paddock is the gunman behind the mass shooting of concert-goers at a country music festival on Sunday night in Las Vegas. Fifty-nine people died while 527 others were wounded in what is considered the deadliest mass shooting in US modern history. Paddock rained bullets on the concert-goers from his suite at the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino on the Las Vegas Strip. According to a Philippine Star report, Danley reportedly arrived in Manila from Hong Kong on September 25. The Bureau of Immigration (BI) however declined to reveal Danley's travel records that would have confirmed that she is indeed in the country, the report added. The Star also said there are reports that Danley is in Japan. The police earlier considered Danley as a "person of interest" in the massacre because her ID was reportedly used by Paddock in booking the Mandalay Bay suite but later cleared her of involvement in the incident as she was out of the country. The Associated Press (AP) however reported that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is out to bring Danley back to the US for questioning. This after a US official briefed by law enforcement but asked not to be identified told AP that Paddock sent US$100,000 to the Philippines, several days before the massacre. AP said investigators are trying to trace the money and are also looking into a dozen financial reports over the past several weeks that showed Paddock having gambled more than US$10,000 per day, the US official revealed. Meanwhile, Danley's Australian nationality was revealed yesterday. Danley was reportedly born in the Philippines but is already an Australian citizen as confirmed by the Australian government. Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop said: "I understand US authorities have ruled out Australian Marilou Danley as a person of interest." Bishop also said Australia is cooperating with US authorities in the investigation of the Las Vegas massacre. The Australian government has not had any direct contact with Danley, she added. The Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), for its part, said they have to verify that Danley was indeed born in the Philippines. "First, we have no confirmation on the nationality of Ms. Marilou Danley. Whether she was a Filipino before, or still a Filipino, or whether she was ever a Filipino, we have no confirmation on that," DFA spokesperson Robespierre Bolivar told Filipino reporters.
