Laundry day with Manny Pacquiao: 8 things we learned

The boxing icon and senator was caught on video with his wife, Jinky, teaching their two daughters Princess and Queenie how to hand wash clothes while the family stayed home during a community quarantine in Luzon province in the Philippines. The video, uploaded on Jinky’s Facebook page, has already amassed more than two million views as of Sunday (April 26). The domestic exercise definitely brought back memories for Manny, who told Jinky that his mother, Dionisia, used to wash clothes for a living. “And I helped wash the clothes,” he reminisced in Filipino. Jinky also shared her experience doing the laundry in the past, saying she used to draw water from a water pump. “It was very tiring. We didn’t have a faucet,” she said in Filipino. Manny said it was a good thing that their clothes today weren’t very dirty. “In the province, the clothes were very dirty,” he said.

Here are 8 things we learned from the Pacquiaos

1. Separate the whites from the coloured clothes

Manny: “Pag maglaba ka, ingatan ang mga puti kasi baka may decolor na kukupas. Ihiwalay ang puti sa decolor.” “When you are doing the laundry, separate the whites from the coloured clothes that may leach,” he said.

2. Soak clothes in water first

Manny said you begin by soaking clothes in water to loosen any dirt. Then rinse.

3. Lather with soap and then scrub

Lather the clothes with soap and then scrub. Do the same on both sides. Manny says pay special attention to scrubbing the ribbings.

4. Make sure you are seated comfortably.

Jinky: Splay your leg You need to adopt a comfortable stance when washing clothes so you don’t end up getting cramps. So splay that leg, Jinky said.

5. Hand washed clothes are cleaner

7. Use gentle detergent to avoid hand injuries

Jinky says she used to scrape her hands from washing clothes. Manny says it depends on the detergent you use. Make sure you use gentle detergent.

8. Finish off with fabric softener
