Tony Award-winning actress and singer Lea Salonga will soon be honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, making her the first Filipino to receive the prestigious recognition. Salonga, who rose to international fame for her lead role in the Broadway musical Miss Saigon, confirmed the news on her Instagram Stories, sharing an article from Billboard. “Just now woke up to this bit of amazing news!” she wrote. The Walk of Fame selection includes stars such as Miley Cyrus, Timothée Chalamet, Emily Blunt, and Rachel McAdams. Ceremonies for the 2026 honorees are yet to be scheduled, with recipients given up to two years to hold their official unveiling. Salonga's legacy in musical theatre is unmatched. She is the first Asian woman to win a Tony Award and has also received the Olivier, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, and Theatre World Awards. She is widely recognized as the singing voice of Disney’s Princess Jasmine in Aladdin and Mulan in Reflection. In Dubai, Salonga has performed to packed audiences at the Dubai Opera, drawing fans from across the region. More recently, Salonga starred in Stephen Sondheim’s Old Friends on Broadway and was nominated for the 2025 Drama League Distinguished Performance Award. This August, she is set to return to the Philippine stage in Into the Woods, playing The Witch alongside her child, Nic Chien, who will portray Jack.
