‘Leave me alone or else’: Sara Duterte sends stern warning to Trillanes

  DUBAI – Following a report quoting Senator Antonio Trillanes as saying that Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte is going to push his daughter to run for president, Davao City Mayor and presidential daughter Sara Duterte-Carpio lashed out at the senator on Wednesday. In her post on Instagram and Facebook, Sara told the senator and staunch Duterte critic to “leave me alone”. “The last time a person irked me, I made sure to make it difficult for him to bring me down and Speaker Boy Nograles lost that election and was a billion pesos poorer,” she warned. On Tuesday, Trillanes told GMA News that President Duterte’s last resort to hold on to power is to nudge his daughter to run for president in 2022. President Duterte was previously quoted in a newspaper report as saying that he couldn’t find a better successor than his daughter. Sara, however, has never indicated that she will run for the presidency, although she did say last week that she was open to seeking an elective post. A Pulse Asia survey in March also showed that the Davao City mayor was among the popular senatorial bets for the 2019 polls. Senator Trillianes told GMA News that President Duterte’s last recourse would be to push his daughter to replace him. “My advice to you is not to think of me, speak of my name, not even a whisper of Inday Sara from your ugly lips. Leave me in peace in Davao City or else you and your friends will spend more than a billion in the 2022 Presidential elections just to make me insignificant,” the younger Duterte said in her message to Trillanes.
