Emails belonging to people identified with Vice President Robredo discussed Duterte's ouster

  MANILA - Leaked email messages of people belonging or identified with Vice President Ma. Leonor "Leni" Robredo that talked about rallies and protests against President Rodrigo Duterte have become major news in the country. Called as "LeniLeaks", it has become known as the Philippines' version of the WikiLeaks. The exposé came from Filipino citizen journalist and blogger “The Thinking Pinoy”, who shared on his Facebook page the leaked emails of the members of a Yahoo! group that called themselves as Global Filipino Diaspora Council. “The only way to fight this evil plot to unseat VP Leni is to ask Duterte to resign. After all, he promised to resign in six months if he has not solved the drug epidemic in the Philippines,” the email read. “He asked for an extension of another six months. Extension denied! Join Duterte Resign Movement.” Among those allegedly part of the email conversation were Filipino-American philathropist Loida Nicolas-Lewis and her sister, Imelda, who is a former chairperson of the Commission of Filipino Overseas, and lawyer Ted Laguatan. Robredo has not issued any statement or comment on the "LeniLeaks" but she denied any involvement in any plot to oust Duterte from office. The email conversation talked about calling for Duterte's resignation, mass actions against his support for the burial of deposed strongman Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayan in November last year, and mobilizing the religious sector and schools against Duterte. Another leaked email said: “This plan is going even better than I expected. We, on our part outside the Philippines are doing our part in holding rallies everywhere.” Malacanang will look into the leaked email conversations, according to Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar and National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperson. In the meantime, they will not conclude that the messages were from the Vice Pesident's office or from Robredo's supporters until they have been verified.
