Appeal denied for man who stabbed Filipina 66 times
DUBAI - A Pakistani watchman will be spending life in jail after he lost his appeal on Wednesday (April 25) for stabbing a Filipina 66 times in her apartment in Dubai.
The gruesome murder happened in February 2016 in International City. The 24-year-old Pakistani was mopping the corridor outside her apartment when he got into an argument with her after he told her to stay inside. She allegedly shouted at him and kicked his bucket.
He returned outside her apartment later and told her he needed to check the fire alarm. When she opened the door, he forced himself inside and attacked her with a knife. He stabbed her repeatedly in the abdomen until the handle broke.
He then used a screwdriver and tried to stab her with it, but she parried off his attacks, so he grabbed a kitchen knife and used it to stab her again.
Although the victim had dropped to the floor, she was still breathing so the Pakistani watchman grabbed an aquarium and smashed it on her head. He then left the apartment.
Her body was discovered after her boyfriend arrived at their apartment. Forensics experts said she had been stabbed 66 times.
Police were able to arrest the watchman two days after he killed the Filipina. Investigators at the crime scene made him a primary suspect.
"He was very solid and did not seem to have been involved. However, when we noticed several injuries on his body, we asked him about some scratches in his face … he claimed that he had hurt himself while shaving. He also claimed that he hurt his knee when he fell on the ground. We suspected him more … then he admitted to killing the woman because she angered him," a police officer testified in court.
In August, the Dubai Court of First Instance sentenced the Pakistani to life in jail for the premeditated murder of the Filipina. He was also given a two-year jail term for stealing her belongings.
He appealed the ruling to have a lighter sentence, and prosecutors also filed an appeal to raise his sentence to capital punishment.
On Wednesday, presiding judge Saeed Salem Bin Sarm dismissed the two appeals and upheld the life sentence and two-year imprisonment.
