After a seven-year hiatus following the death of their iconic frontman Chester Bennington, Linkin Park has returned to the music scene with a new album and a fresh face. The band introduced Emily Armstrong, the lead singer of the band Dead Sara, as their new co-vocalist. On September 5, 2024, the band announced in a press release that Emily Armstrong, lead singer of Dead Sara, has joined as co-lead vocalist alongside band veteran Mike Shinoda. The announcement comes alongside the release of their new single "The Emptiness Machine" and a planned world tour. Armstrong made her debut during a live global streaming event in Los Angeles on September 5, performing not only the new single but also beloved Linkin Park hits like "In the End," "Numb," and "Somewhere I Belong." Shinoda praised her performance, saying, "When I heard Emily’s voice on our tracks, it finally felt like Linkin Park was back." Armstrong addressed the challenge of stepping into Bennington’s role, noting her desire to honor his legacy. "It’s not about making the songs my own; it’s about maintaining their emotional impact with my voice," she said during an interview with Zane Lowe. The band's new single marks the first new music since their 2017 album One More Light. "The Emptiness Machine" features Armstrong’s unique voice, blending seamlessly with Linkin Park’s signature sound. This single is part of the band’s highly anticipated new album From Zero, which is set to be released on November 15. The album follows the spring release of Papercuts (Singles Collection 2000-2023), a compilation of their greatest hits. In addition to Armstrong, the band also introduced drummer Colin Brittain, known for his work with G Flip, Illenium, and One OK Rock. Brittain joins the core lineup, which includes Shinoda, Joe Hahn, Phoenix, and Brad Delson. "The more we worked with Emily and Colin, the more we enjoyed their world-class talents and the new energy they brought to the band," Shinoda said. "We’ve woven together the sound we’re known for while exploring new territory." Linkin Park's "From Zero World Tour" kicks off on September 11 in Los Angeles, with stops in New York, Germany, London, South Korea, and Colombia. Fans can purchase tickets through the band’s LP Underground fan club. ICA/Expat Media
