Filipino actress Liza Soberano has confirmed that her relationship with fellow actor Enrique Gil ended nearly three years ago, putting an end to years of speculation surrounding their status. Soberano, 26, made the revelation during her appearance on the Can I Come In? podcast on Thursday (August 14), where she spoke candidly about her long-time romance with Gil. “I’ve been itching to tell people this because I haven’t been very truthful. Quen hasn’t been very truthful. Quen and I broke up,” she said, using Gil’s nickname. “We’ve been broken up for almost three years now.” She explained that they initially kept their split private at Gil’s request. “I think it was coming from a place of not wanting it to be real. I agreed because I also didn’t want it to be real… I was afraid that if people found out we weren’t together anymore, my career would go bad or people wouldn’t love me anymore,” she said.

Dubai appearances

The former love team, known to fans as “LizQuen,” had strong ties to their UAE fan base. Their last public appearance together in Dubai was at the premiere of Alone/Together at Dubai Mall. In June 2024, Gil returned solo to Dubai to perform at the Philippine Independence Day celebration at Dubai World Trade Center. Soberano admitted she once believed she and Gil would marry, describing their split as “a beautiful breakup” that remained “full of love.” “It was so hard for me to actually break up with him because I love him. I still love him as a person… but we weren’t a match anymore,” she said. Referring to Gil as her “childhood best friend,” the Forevermore star acknowledged feeling “guilt” for ending the relationship despite knowing it was the right decision for her personal growth. The actress also opened up about their early romance, saying they had feelings for each other even before officially becoming a love team. She credited their onscreen partnership with helping her overcome childhood struggles. “I gained a lifelong best friend. My first love. I was able to take myself out of poverty because of the love team,” she said. Gil has yet to comment on Soberano’s revelation. Rumors about their breakup began circulating in 2023, but the pair continued to make public appearances separately and avoided confirming or denying the reports—until now.
