Warner Bros., Universal studios call off events; executives express sympathy to victims

  MANCHESTER - In the wake of the Manchester Arena bombing last Monday, the London premieres of the highly-anticipated DC Movie "Wonder Woman" starring Gal Gadot and "The Mummy" reboot with Tom Cruise in the lead have been scrapped. "In light of the current situation, we will not be proceeding with our plans for the 'Wonder Woman' premiere and junket activities in London. Our thoughts are with those affected by the recent tragedy in the UK," said Warner Bros. in a statement. Universal studios, on the other hand, said: "All of us at Universal have been devastated by the terror attack in Manchester and continue to stand with the community and country as it recovers. Out of respect to those affected by this tragedy we have decided not to move forward with the London premiere for The Mummy scheduled to take place next week." Twenty-two people, including an eight-year-old girl, were killed in an explosion caused by a suicide bomber who detonated himself outside of the Manchester Arena, just after a concert by pop star Ariana Grande. Fifty-nine others were wounded in the blast. The London premiere of "Wonder Woman" was supposed to be held at the Leicester Square on May 31, while "The Mummy" was set to premiere in the British capital the following day. "Wonder Woman" also stars Chris Pine and Robin Wright and will be released worldwide on June 2. 'The Mummy" will hit theaters on June 9. Meanwhile, Grande's manager, Scooter Braun, paid tribute to the victims of the Manchester Arena bombing as he urged Grande's fans "not to give in to terrorism but to continue to live their lives with freedom and joy." On Twitter, Braun vowed to honor the victims of the attack by "loving, laughing and living." "I will honor those that are lost by living each day full. Full of fun, full of laughter, full of joy," he said. Grande has put on hold the European leg of her Dangerous Woman tour in June after the terror attack.
