Look: 100 get married in first mass wedding at Expo 2020 Dubai
DUBAI – One hundred Emirati men tied the knot in the first mass wedding at Expo 2020 Dubai this week as part of the Fazaa initiative to revive social traditions in the UAE. The mass wedding—the first in Expo 2020—was held on March 11 at the Gayath Trail beside the UAE Pavilion. The grooms were employees of the Ministry of Interior. The mass wedding was organized by the Ministry of Interior, and was attended General Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. “This is a happy day for all of us. The attendance of Sheikh Saif bin Zayed has honoured this mass wedding, which enabled us to revitalise our tradition,” said Ahmed Mohammed Buharoon, General Manager of the Ministry of Interior’s Fazaa Social Security Fund. Buharoon said the mass wedding gave a “helping hand to ministry employees with the wedding costs”. In the UAE, the average cost of an Emirati wedding is $186,000 (Dh682,620), according to a Zayed University study.
