Lost Indian boy found by Filipina in Dubai to be placed in foster home

DUBAI – A five-year-old Indian boy found by a Filipina shopper at Reef Mall in Dubai will be placed in a foster home until authorities find his parents. It has been more than ten days since the boy, whose identity remains unknown, was found roaming the mall alone. The Filipina reportedly waited for a long time for the boy’s parents to show up before taking him to the police station. Since the September 7 incident, no one has come forward to claim the boy and the search for his parents continues. The boy is currently in the custody of female police officers in Al Muraqqabat Police Station. Mohammed Rustom, Dubai's Advocate General, said the boy appeared to have been deliberately abandoned. Police believe his mother left him in the care of a friend, who possibly left him in the mall. When asked about his father’s name, the boy answered “Superman”. The boy only speaks English. Under the UAE child protection law, abandoned children have the right to be assisted by the country. His parents may also face charges of child endangerment, which is punishable by imprisonment and a fine of not less than Dh5,000.
