UAE tycoon Yusuff Ali of Lulu Group safe after helicopter emergency landing

  DUBAI – UAE-based businessman Yusuff Ali of Lulu Group is reportedly safe after his helicopter made an emergency landing in Kochi, India on Sunday (April 11). The helicopter was carrying Yusuff Ali, his wife, two pilots and three others. They were taken to a hospital as a precaution. Bad weather forced the pilot to make an emergency landing in an empty field. No one was reported hurt in the incident. The businessman was in his home town for a personal visit. In a statement, V. Nandakumar, head of communications at Lulu Group, said Yusuff Ali was on a short trip from his home in Kochi to visit a relative in hospital. “Due to the sudden deterioration of the weather conditions and heavy rains, the experienced pilots decided to make a precautionary landing at a safe place to prevent any risk to the life of the passengers or to the public at large,” Nandakumar said. “All passengers and crew underwent necessary medical check-ups and are safe,” he added. Yusuff Ali was only a teenager when he arrived in the UAE. He went on to own one of the UAE’s biggest hypermarket chains with Lulu. There are currently 207 Lulu stores around the world, with 10 new hypermarkets due to open in the UAE this year. Yusuff Ali was one of the first 6,800 investors in the UAE who were given the gold visa in 2019 to allow them long-term residency in the country. ICA/Expat Media
