Exceptional overseas Filipinos, community leaders and partners who have helped strengthen the Filipino presence in the UAE were honored during the Mabuhay Awards in Dubai, one of the key events marking the 128th anniversary of Philippine Independence. The awards ceremony recognized Filipinos who have excelled in their professions and community service while helping enhance the reputation of Filipinos in the UAE. Presented by the Filipino Social Club (FilSoc), the Mabuhay Awards are regarded as one of the community's highest recognitions for overseas Filipino workers whose achievements contribute to both the Filipino community and the broader society in which they live and work. The ceremony was attended by Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac, Philippine Ambassador Alfonso Ferdinand Ver, Philippine Consul General Ambrosio Brian Enciso III, and Labor Attaché John Rio Bautista, together with representatives from Philippine government agencies, community organizations and Filipino residents. The event paid tribute not only to the heroes of Philippine history but also to what organizers described as today's heroes: overseas Filipino workers whose sacrifices continue to support their families and contribute significantly to the Philippine economy. According to the Department of Migrant Workers, the celebration was held to strengthen the protection, welfare and delivery of services to overseas Filipino workers and their families. In a statement, the DMW said the event recognized both historical and modern-day heroes in Dubai while reaffirming the Philippine government's commitment to the welfare of Filipinos overseas.

Parade opens celebration

The commemoration began with a colorful parade led by the Dubai Police Academy Band and marching bands from various Filipino schools in the UAE. Joining the parade were Secretary Cacdac, officials from the Philippine Embassy and Philippine Consulate, representatives from the Migrant Workers Office (MWO), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Dubai, other Philippine government agencies and Filipino community organizations. Officials used the occasion to reaffirm their commitment to serving Filipinos abroad and supporting their contributions to nation-building. For years, the Mabuhay Awards have highlighted the achievements of Filipinos who excel in business, professional careers, community service, leadership and other fields. Filipino Social Club President Ericson Reyes told Expat Media that the award honors individuals whose accomplishments reflect positively on the Filipino community and demonstrate the values of excellence, responsibility and integrity. As the Filipino population in the UAE continues to grow, the recognition also serves as a reminder of the important role overseas Filipinos play in building bridges between the Philippines and their host countries.
