Filipina reported missing in Abu Dhabi found dead, suspect in police custody

  DUBAI – Filipino expatriate Mary Anne Daynolo, who was reported missing in the UAE last year, has been found dead, the Philippine Embassy in the UAE confirmed on Monday (February 1). The suspect in Daynolo’s death is currently under police custody, according to Abu Dhabi Police. The suspect is her work colleague and has confessed to the crime, police said. There were no further details revealed about the circumstances surrounding the death. The body of the 29-year-old Filipina was found on January 19, 2021, ten months after she was reported missing in the UAE capital on March 4. Daynolo worked as a receptionist for a hotel in Abu Dhabi where some of her siblings also worked. She was the youngest of five siblings. Daynolo's sister, Mari Franz, told media the siblings raised alarm after they couldn't reach her on her mobile phone after her shift at work. They were supposed to visit a theme park together. In a media interview, Philippine Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello said a Ugandan suspect by the name of Paul reportedly admitted to stabbing Daynolo in the neck. Bello said the suspect led UAE police to the place where Daynolo's body was buried. The Philippine official said that the body was found in "advanced stage of decomposition". Daynolo's remains have been repatriated and arrived in Manila on January 30, according to the Philippine Embassy in a statement sent to Expatmedia.net. “The Embassy of the Philippines expressed deep sadness and extended condolences to the family of Ms. Mary Anne Daynolo,” according to the Philippine Embassy. The Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi is in close coordination with the Daynolo family and Abu Dhabi authorities on the ongoing criminal investigation surrounding the Filipina's death. Philippine Ambassador Hjayceelyn Quintana assured the victim's relatives that the embassy “will spare no effort in seeking justice for the death of Ms. Daynolo”. The embassy lawyer is also closely assisting the family in taking all necessary legal action to make sure justice is served, the embassy said.
