GCC airports lead world in innovation and luxury

  DUBAI - GCC airports were named as the leading airports in the world in terms of passenger traffic. Their secret? Luxury and innovation, an expert at a global travel search site said. Mamoun Hmedan, managing director of Wego Middle East, North Africa and India, said that airports in the region, especially in the GCC, have maintained their momentum with innovative designs, services and expansion plans, which mirror the pace of their growing aviation network. “Middle Eastern carriers are setting a benchmark for the future of air travel – setting the pace for numbers of new aircraft orders, introducing new and longer flight routes, excellence of in-flight luxury and service, and some of the most lucrative and effective sponsorship campaigns in the world,” Hmedan said. In Dubai, there are plans for further expansion to accommodate an expected burgeoning passenger traffic until 2020. Dubai International has continued its surge in terms of passenger traffic with the airport welcoming 6.7 million customers. The monthly traffic report by the operator of Dubai Airports released on Thursday revealed that the numbers in May rose to 7.2 percent with 6,721,995 visitors compared to last year's numbers with 6,267,640 in the same month last year. Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, said that they are looking at solid growth for the first half of 2016.
