Mall of the Emirates has dismissed claims circulating on social media that the popular Dubai landmark was flooded during this week’s heavy rain, saying the footage being shared online is outdated and misleading. Majid Al Futtaim (MAF), the company that owns and operates the mall, issued a statement clarifying that the videos do not reflect the mall’s current condition. “We are aware of social media content claiming that Mall of the Emirates is currently experiencing flooding due to recent rainfall. This footage is outdated and does not reflect today’s situation,” the company said. MAF stressed that the mall continues to operate normally despite the adverse weather. “Mall of the Emirates remains fully operational, with no flooding issues,” the statement said, urging the public to rely only on verified updates from its official channels. The company added that the mall continues to welcome shoppers and tenants, particularly as footfall often shifts indoors during periods of heavy rain, when residents seek dry and climate-controlled spaces. “Mall of the Emirates is operating as normal and continues to welcome visitors, subject to safety conditions. Visitors are advised to exercise caution when visiting during adverse weather,” MAF said. Majid Al Futtaim also said it is closely coordinating with authorities to ensure public safety. “We are closely monitoring the situation and working with the relevant authorities to ensure the safety of our visitors and tenants, which remains our top priority,” the company added. The clarification comes as Dubai continues to experience unstable weather conditions. Dubai Police issued a fresh SMS alert on Thursday evening (December 18), warning residents to remain cautious and to avoid going out unless absolutely necessary until midday on Friday (December 19). As part of wider safety measures, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, announced that Dubai government employees will work remotely on Friday, except those required to be on-site for essential services. The National Centre of Meteorology has forecast continued unstable weather until Friday, with yellow and orange warnings in place over the Dubai coastline.
