Dubai’s iconic Mall of the Emirates is set to undergo a massive Dh5 billion transformation to mark its 20th anniversary, rebranding itself as the “Mall of New Possibilities,” according to owner and operator Majid Al Futtaim (MAF). The ambitious expansion will add 100 new retail outlets, an outdoor and indoor dining precinct, enhanced wellness and entertainment zones, and a world-class theatre and cinema experience — cementing its position as one of the region’s leading lifestyle destinations. “Two decades ago, Mall of the Emirates set a new benchmark for retail and entertainment in the region. Today, we’re building on that legacy with a bold investment that redefines what a mall can be,” said Khalifa Bin Braik, CEO of Majid Al Futtaim Asset Management. “This transformation goes beyond physical expansion — it’s about creating new ways for people to connect, unwind, and be inspired, all in one destination,” he added. Under the redevelopment, 100 new stores will be added to the mall. A dynamic indoor-outdoor precinct will be added to bring in fast-casual dining and interactive entertainment. The mall’s first-ever outdoor F&B courtyard will debut in early 2027, designed to transform into a lush oasis during cooler months. The New Covent Garden Theatre is set to soft launch in mid-2025 and will feature 600 seats and rehearsal spaces. The mall will also have a revamped VOX Cinemas that will house the world’s most advanced IMAX experience. Four new entertainment attractions will be launched by late 2026. The West End district will be fully modernised to become a social hub with upgraded design and atmosphere. So far, MAF has already spent Dh1.1 billion on the ongoing expansion, with visitors expected to start seeing results soon. “We will be announcing high-end restaurants to elevate experiences. There are some incredible uplifts that will be unveiled in due course,” said a spokesperson for MAF. The redevelopment aligns with MAF’s 2030 vision to deliver a next-generation, experience-led retail destination. Majid Al Futtaim owns and operates 29 shopping malls, seven hotels, and five mixed-use communities across the region. The company welcomes more than 600 million customers annually and employs over 43,000 people.
