Motorists heading to Mall of the Emirates can now enjoy faster access thanks to a newly opened 300-metre bridge connecting Dubai's Sheikh Zayed Road to the mall’s parking facilities. The project, developed by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in collaboration with Majid Al Futtaim Properties, is designed to handle up to 900 vehicles per hour, easing congestion and improving traffic flow. According to Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at RTA, the project reflects Dubai’s goal of continuously improving road networks serving key destinations. “This project forms part of RTA’s efforts, in collaboration with real estate partners, to enhance the infrastructure of roads serving property developments and shopping centres,” Al Tayer said. The works included expanding mall entrances, upgrading surrounding intersections, widening the southbound ramp at Umm Suqeim junction, and improving pedestrian and cycling tracks. The new bridge offers direct access for motorists arriving from Abu Dhabi and Jebel Ali, reducing travel time to just one minute—down from the previous ten minutes. The project also modernized 2.5km of surrounding roads, added six signalized intersections, and improved the Mall of the Emirates Metro Station’s bus terminal. “The new bridge enhances road safety, increases traffic efficiency, and facilitates smoother access to one of Dubai’s busiest shopping destinations,” Al Tayer added. RTA said additional upgrades are underway through the Umm Suqeim Street Improvement Project, which includes four bridges and two tunnels connecting Jumeirah Street to Al Khail Road. ICA/Expat Media
