Man arrested for bid to sell drugs during Abu Dhabi iftar

ABU DHABI - An Arab drug dealer has been arrested in a sting operation in Abu Dhabi where he was caught trying to sell drugs during iftar time. According to Abu Dhabi Police, the 53-year-old man was trying to distribute 3,000 narcotic pills. "This being the month of Ramadan, he knew that the policemen will also be ending their fast like others during iftar time. So he chose to sell the drugs keeping the iftar time in mind," said Colonel Tahir Gareeb Al Daheri, director of Abu Dhabi Police’s Drug Control Department. Al Daheri said the suspect was put under surveillance following a tip-off, and then police laid out a sting operation. “He was shocked and just couldn’t believe that he had been caught out. He thought he had chosen the best time to sell his drugs," Al Daheri said. The Arab suspect reportedly confessed to peddling drugs and admitted he sold them with the help of associates based outside the UAE. Police recovered from his possession drugs and a large amount of cash. The case has been referred to the Abu Dhabi Public Prosecution.
