Authorities in Fujairah have arrested an Arab national accused of trespassing and filming in restricted areas without official permission. Officials confirmed on Tuesday (March 17) that the suspect, identified by the initials A.M., “trespassed and carried out filming in restricted areas without obtaining the necessary official permits, in clear violation of the laws and regulations in force in the country.” According to authorities, the individual secretly entered restricted locations without authorisation and carried out filming activities before being detected. Investigations revealed that the suspect works for an international media organisation but did not have approval to enter the sites or conduct any filming there. Authorities said he used a rented vehicle belonging to a journalist affiliated with the Dubai branch of the same organisation to access the area. Further investigations found that the footage recorded at the restricted locations was sent electronically to a news organisation in London. Officials said this was done without official approval and based on instructions from the company’s Gulf regional branch manager, identified as B.A. Authorities confirmed that the suspect has been referred to the Public Prosecution for legal action over entering prohibited areas and filming without a licence. Officials reiterated that UAE laws prohibit entering or being present in restricted areas without a permit, even if no other offence is committed. The law also criminalises photographing, mapping, recording coordinates or documenting such locations without approval from the relevant authorities. The UAE Public Prosecution stressed the importance of complying with regulations and obtaining prior permits before conducting any filming activities, especially in sensitive locations.
