Man arrested for selling fake Rolex, luxury watches in Dubai apartment

Authorities in Dubai have arrested an Asian man for allegedly selling fake Rolexes and other luxury watches in his apartment. The suspect was arrested following a police raid on his apartment in Deira. The raid was conducted after the Anti-Economic Crimes Department received a tip-off about the man’s illegal activity. Police found 17 types of fake luxury watches from brands including Rolex, Hublot, Patek Philippe, Chopard and Omega. Police seized a total of 64 Rolex watches, 10 Patek Philippine watches and several more luxury watches and jewellery. According to the Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry, the seized watches “bear the trademarks of companies that are members of the union concerned with protecting their trademarks." Their examination shows that the watches “were not manufactured in the companies that own the brands and that the marks written on them were placed badly. Additionally, they are manufactured with poor quality and raw materials, different from the original watches, and do not carry manufacturing data or serial numbers." During interrogation, the Asian suspect admitted that he bought the fake watches from the black market. The counterfeit trade remains banned in the UAE, but it thrives in underground trading in some markets and shops in the country. A campaign to stop counterfeit traders is ongoing, with hundreds of violators fined and prosecuted. ICA/Expat Media ALSO READ: Fake Rolex, Louis Vuitton worth Dh30 million seized in Ajman
