Ras Al Khaimah police have detained an individual accused of circulating images and videos of vandalized vehicles on social media, following the arrest of the thief responsible for the break-ins. Authorities believe that the circulation of these images hindered investigative efforts and contributed to public unease. The photos, shared widely across social platforms, showcased vehicles that had been broken into by a masked suspect, sparking concern among residents. Brigadier Dr. Tariq Mohammed bin Saif emphasized that sharing such visuals can disrupt police investigations and help suspects evade detection. “We urge the public not to engage in sharing content that could interfere with ongoing cases,” he said. The detained individual, also Asian, now faces charges under Article 52 of the UAE’s Anti-Rumours and Cybercrime Law, which prohibits the dissemination of misleading reports and images online. Violations of this law carry penalties of up to one year in prison and fines starting at Dh100,000. Ras Al Khaimah’s Police Chief, Major General Ali Abdullah bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, commended his team’s swift response. He stressed that community members must prioritize police directives over creating viral social media content, as unauthorized disclosures can have unintended consequences. The police’s action underscores the UAE’s strong stance on cybercrime and the misuse of social media.
