Man beats wife for snoring, Dubai court hears

  DUBAI - A 39-year-old Jordanian man has been accused of beating up his wife over her loud snoring. At the Dubai court, the man denied assaulting his wife, claiming that she and her father filed the case against him to force him to divorce his second wife. The Jordanian's first wife, 19, told the court that he often insults her about her loud snoring when they are at their home in Al Mamzar. The couple has been married for seven months. “I am pregnant and suffering difficulty breathing, so he keeps complaining about that and he often insults me using very bad words - he calls me a dog and a poo,” the Jordanian woman told prosecutors. She also said that one morning her husband confiscated her mobile phone and that when she stopped him, he choked, slapped and kicked her. “He didn't even care that I was 20 weeks pregnant, he hit me all over my body and banged my head to the wall before he left,” she said. She reported the incident to the police. Her husband denied the allegations. He also told the court that on the day that his wife claimed that he assaulted her, he discovered that she stole Dh50,000 in cash, Dh100,000 worth of gold and more than Dh100,000 worth of electronics. “When I asked for them back, she and her father blackmailed me into divorcing my second wife,” he said, adding that he has work-related issues with his wife's father. The court is expected to issue a verdict this month.
