Defendant demanded Dh6,000 from sisters so he won't post the pictures

ABU DHABI – Police arrested a man who blackmailed two sisters into paying him money so he won't publish their private Snapchat pictures Prosecutors said today (Wednesday) that the man will be in the custody of authorities for seven days. Reports said the man befriended one of the sisters on Snapchat and began chatting with her frequently. The man then created another Snapchat account and used it to blackmail the sisters into paying him Dh6,000 so he won't publish private photos of the two women. The two sisters paid the man but when he asked for an additional Dh9,000, the two women decided to report the matter to the police. The police managed to trace the man's whereabouts and subsequently arrested him. Under the UAE's cybercrime law, any person convicted of online blackmail can be jailed for three years and/or fined up to Dh1 million. According to Abu Dhabi attorney general Mohammed Al Buloushi, the methods used by the suspect in the case "formed a challenge for the specialized IT professionals in the department for he has a vast experience of camouflaging and hiding prosecuting evidence." But Al Buloushi said they were able to find incriminating evidence despite the suspect's efforts to hide them.
