A man convicted of breaking into a shop in Al Ain and stealing valuables has been ordered to pay Dh50,000 in damages, according to a ruling by the Al Ain Court of Civil, Commercial, and Administrative Cases. The court’s decision came after the victim filed a lawsuit seeking compensation for material and moral damages caused by the break-in. The victim also requested a legal interest of 9 percent on the amount from the date of the claim until full repayment. Court documents reveal that the thief had forcibly entered the shop by damaging its back door before stealing goods worth an estimated Dh46,493. The accused had already been found guilty in a separate criminal case related to the incident. Despite being legally notified, the defendant did not attend the court proceedings, nor did a representative appear on his behalf. Based on the criminal court’s ruling and evidence presented, the judge determined that the plaintiff had suffered financial and emotional distress. As a result, the court awarded the victim Dh50,000 in compensation, which includes damages for the loss of goods and the emotional impact of the crime.
